Solid state modulator no 400 from ScandiNova

UPPSALA, SWEDEN, APRIL 24, 2017. TODAY, SCANDINOVA’S 400TH PULSE MODULATOR IS READY FOR DELIVERY FROM THE PRODUCTION FACILITY IN SWEDEN TO BE INSTALLED AT TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY IN CHINA. THIS IS YET ANOTHER MILESTONE IN SCANDINOVA’S JOURNEY TO LEAD THE TRANSITION FROM OLD TECHNOLOGY TO MODERN SOLID-STATE SOLUTIONS.

K2-3

ScandiNova’s vision is to get all users of pulsed power systems to use modern solid-state modulators to significantly improve product performance in fields such as particle physics, cancer therapy and selected industrial sectors.

Since the 1940-ies, most pulse power applications have been based on traditional technology using Pulse Forming Network (PFN) and Thyratron tube switching. In the late 1990s ScandiNova’s founders were not satisfied with all the limitations of the old technology such as big and bulky machines with inadequate performance and reliability. However, no one had managed to create a well-functioning solid-state pulse modulator for high-power levels and few believed that ScandiNova would succeed.

Almost 20 years and 400 installations later, ScandiNova has managed to prove the opposite, thanks to its patented solid-state technology concept. All completed installations have led to invaluable knowledge and feedback that is essential to constantly be at the forefront and offer cutting-edge products with high performance.

I am very proud that we have reached another milestone in our company’s development from a small business to a global leader in the pulsed power industry, says Mikael Lindholm, Senior VP Sales & Marketing, ScandiNova Systems AB. We look forward to continuing this journey together with our customers and partners says Mikael.

The K400 pulse modulator at Tsinghua University will be driving a 11.4GHz, 50MW Peak Power klystron used for high-gradient testing and related scientific research. Tsinghua is a top ranked university in China with many achievements in Scientific & Technology areas.
